Blue Mountains

Wednesday, 27th May

The accommodation was simple, clean and warm. It was everything we needed. We thought everyone would appreciate a quiet day around the house, since we hadn't had that opportunity for a week or so, so we didn’t plan anything for that day. We were wrong :-(

So we did do a couple of things - the corner store was literally on the corner... three doors up. Hailey thought that was quite a novelty and we found a couple of excuses to go up there.

We were less than 1Km from the Three Sisters and Echo Point. Nevertheless we drove there! The fog was so thick that we simply could not see the Three Sisters from the lookout. We went to the gift shop to burn-off some extra cash and we caught a glimpse from there. By the time we came out the fog was back. We suspect that there actually may only be two sisters (an evil plot has resulted in one sister being held for ransom by an international spy syndicate), and they have just painted three on the windows of the gift shop to keep up appearances.

On the way back up the hill we discovered a chocolate shop. They served hot chocolate in little individual chocolate fondue kits, with frothed cappuccino milk! You drop the chocolate bits into the cup to melt them and add milk to your own taste.

Leisa: Best hot chocolate in the world (well as far as my pallet has been exposed too)

Thursday, 28th May

Leoni, Will and Max came over to play.

We went to Wentworth Falls and checked-out a couple of the lookouts. There were quite a few stairs and Max managed to walk the whole way by himself (despite having sore legs!). When we got back to the picnic grounds we had some sandwiches and chips, and the kids played in the park area for quite a while.

We all went up to the lolly shop in Leura, which was very popular. Then we all went to a coffee shop together. The hot chocolates were not the same…

Afterwards, we snuck into the chocolate shop again for a ‘real’ hot chocolate.

Friday, 29th May

We went to the Jenolan Caves!

The drive took a little over an hour. On the way we saw several wallabies on the road, which excited the girls – it’s not something you see much of in the city.

The little village at Jenolan was very nice. We did a cave tour and all of us enjoyed it very much. We took lots of photos. Dad, Mum and Hailey did a self-guided tour afterwards, but Rebecca was content to loiter in the gift shop for that time.

We came back in time to pack our bags up and get ready to leave the next day. Once we were sorted, we headed down the mountain to Ben, Leoni, Will and Max’s house for dinner.

When we got back it was after midnight. We thought we would go a check out the Three Sisters again… still fogged-out. There’s certainly something fishy about that.
